A short story about the search for revenge and how it can change your life.

The fable and west is a short story written by author David Mitchell. The story follows the protagonist who has dreams about his life that are quite different from reality.

The quest for closure may have far-reaching repercussions, some of which are life-threatening. When the ancient folks invented the phrase “curiosity killed the cat,” we’re sure they had a good idea of where they were going. This caution, however, generally does not deter people in pursuit of the truth. With a little inspiration, especially a few puffs of marijuana, one may summon the courage to face whatever impending adversary there, supernatural or human. Well, ‘The Murder Podcast’ falls down this rabbit hole, resulting in a film that under-exploits the genre it is based on, leaving viewers disappointed.

Andrew McDermott, Cooper Bucha, Logan Mariner, Brian Edmond, Levi Burdick, and Scott Hawkins appear in this horror film written, directed, and edited by William Bagley.

The plot revolves on a young guy called Chad Thadwick who is attempting to make a name for himself while dealing with the feelings of failing to meet society’s traditional definitions of success and coming to terms with the death of his father and the less-than-remarkable legacy he left behind.

McDermott’s Thadwick, like any other guy his age, is attempting to make it big in the internet business. They launch the ramen reviewing podcast with his buddy Ed, played by Cooper Bucha. They get a few listeners, but not enough to secure a sponsor, allowing their business to take off. Thadwick’s life isn’t very successful or romantically interesting. He’s trapped in his sister’s basement, working a low-paying job he despises, while his passion, podcasting, has come to a halt.

Until a local guy and his mother are brutally killed in their apartment, this professional option seems bleak. The slain man’s life reflects the element of seeking achievement as a masculine grownup. To begin with, he lives with his mother despite being of legal drinking age, he drinks and plays video games all day, he has objectives written on his refrigerator to make something of his life, but he never follows through on any of them, and the way his life was presented in a nutshell is very smart.

Returning to the two friends, they suspect foul play in the murder and begin to investigate in order to improve the quality of their podcast. They are unable to compete with the established local broadcasters using just their microphone. After several unsuccessful attempts to obtain information while his sister’s husband tries to evict him from her basement, the twosome suspects the local police chief as the murderer and pursue him until they discover that the murders are the work of a sinister force, and Thadwick becomes the next victim.

The story revolves on family, social expectations, personal ambitions, and a local legend. Thadwick’s father is said to be a madman who spent years of his life studying a particular witch known as Esmeralda, who was killed on suspicion of witchcraft many years ago. She was buried in the community’s woods, and her tomb was marked with a coin. When the coin is removed from her tomb, her soul is released, and she now pursues and murders the bearer of the coin in cold blood.

The narrative is well-paced, beginning slowly and then building up as the murders begin, to the friends’ inquiry and the police chief’s neck being snapped by an unseen spirit, to the protagonist battling the spirit of, it all sounds intriguing, but the intensity does not match. There are a few jump scares sprinkled throughout the film, but Esmeralda as the villain isn’t very terrifying.

The performances, particularly those of the main character, are underwhelming. Thadwick has his moments of brilliance, such as when he realizes the coin has something to do with the killings and goes to his father’s study, but his performances seem forced. He doesn’t seem frustrated when he should, vulnerable, furious or happy when the circumstance demands it, or even frightened, despite the fact that he is being pursued by a murderous madman who has murdered a large number of people. It may be because it’s a horror comedy, but the humor isn’t very memorable.

In fact, Cooper Bucha’s portrayal as Ed is the most genuine in the whole film. He may be slow to pick up with things at times, but his innocence is refreshing, his emotions are realistic, and he is terrified throughout the trip. Levi Burdick gives it his all as a suspicious policeman with no friends and a habit of drinking on the job, but his character lacks the fangs that come with his position.

When the ghost is ready to feed on its victims, the photos are expertly blended together. A scenario in which the first victim is murdered is particularly noteworthy. From the flickering light to the static TV screen, to the fatal coin on the table, to the victim’s face, the shots change quickly. All of this, along with fast-paced music, keeps one on the edge of their seat. Surprisingly, despite all of the buildup, the scenario isn’t as as terrifying as one would anticipate.

The settings are varied, but not very beautiful. They don’t offer any visual value to the feature, despite the fact that we’re informed the town is quite quiet and hasn’t had any murders in years. The lighting and camera work, on the other hand, attempt to provide a spooky element to the images. It’s frightening, for example, when the lights suddenly start flickering before the hideous killing monster arrives. The lighting in the woods is terrifying, but seeing the final result of the ghosts’ slasher skills would have been great. Furthermore, horror films are made to offer horrific moments that leave viewers paralyzed with terror.

At the end of the day, ‘The Murder Podcast’ features a well-balanced level of horror and humor that is essentially average. Neither film has the x-factor, since the audience isn’t left pissed in their pants with terror or sprawled on the floor with laughter after viewing it. If the acting have been improved, this film with so much promise might have been rescued from drowning in its own narrative.
